Population Characteristics

Barangay Population

Final results of the latest Census of Population (POPCEN 2007) conducted by the National Statistics Office (NSO) placed the City’s population at 633,971 persons as of August 1, 2007.  This represents an increase of 34.64% compared to last 2000 census of population and housing conducted by the NSO last May 1, 2000 which is 470,866.

Antipolo has 16 barangays, of which four (4) are in the Poblacion namely: Brgy. Dela Paz, San Roque, San Jose and San Isidro.  The biggest barangay in terms of population is Brgy. San Jose with 86,667 inhabitants followed by Brgy. Cupang (76,247) and Brgy. Dela Paz (58,559).  The smallest is Beverly Hills with 1,940 and Calawis (3,978).

Barangay Population size percentage share

 

Brgy. San Jose of District II has the largest percentage of population with 13.67%. This is followed by Brgy. Cupang with 12.03%. Brgy Dela Paz has the largest population in District I with 9.24%. On the other hand, Brgy. Beverly Hills of District I has the least population with 0.31%, while Brgy. Calawis of District II has 0.63%.

Relative to the population of Rizal Province, Antipolo has the most residents with 633,971. This is followed by Cainta (289,833) and Taytay (262,485). On the other hand, Jala-jala (28,738) and Baras (31,524) are municipalities in Rizal with the least population.

Population Annual Growth Rate of Antipolo, 1948-2007

Table 9 shows the historical trend of population growth rate in Antipolo from 1948 to 2007. It can be observed that there has been a steady growth in population from 1948 (with the exception of 1960-1970) to the first half of 1995. In contrast, there has been a significant decreased in population from 1995 until 2007.  The actual growth rate from 2000 to 2007 is notably lower than what was projected.

Relative to the population of the whole Region IV-A (CALABARZON), Rizal Province is only third in number of residents with 2,284,046 as of August 2007. Rizal also has the second highest annual population growth rate with 4.76%. In both categories, Cavite is first in population (2,856,765) and annual growth rate (4.93).

Population Growth of Rizal Province and Antipolo Citiny from 1903-2007

The information on Table 11 shows the steady increase of percent share of population of Antipolo City to the Province of Rizal. From only 6.65% in 1903, it gradually increased until it reached a high of 20.98% in 1990. As of 2007, the percent share is already at 27.76%.

Migration / Natural Increase on Population

Around 17% of the residents who are five-year and over are immigrants from other provinces as per the 1990 census.  This shows a significant contribution of migration to the overall population increase in the city.

Household Population 5 Years Old and Over by Gender and Place of Origin

Table 14 shows the Year 2000 household population for residents who are 5 years and over, categorized by gender, and their place of residence before they migrated to Antipolo City. It can be seen in the below that the number of females are only slightly higher than the male population. A large percentage of the migrants came from other provinces (9.8%), while 0.97% came from other municipalities in Rizal, and a small portion from foreign countries (0.2%).

the table beow illustrates a consistent increase in the population of 5 years old and over from Year 2000 to 2008. The same upward trend is seen in the number of births and deaths (except in Year 2004 and 2008). At the time of the formulation of this profile, no data has been released by the NSO regarding the age group population in Year 2007 and 2008.

Percent Share of Natural Increase to Population Growth

The information below shows the percentage contribution of natural increase (births minus deaths) in the population growth of Antipolo City. The other cause of population increase is by inmigration. Based on the trend below, the percentage of natural increase slightly declines from year to year (with the exception of year 2002). This means that although the actual numbers of natural growth are going up, the percentage of immigrants to Antipolo is becoming more significant to the rising population of the City.

Labor Force

The labor force (15 years and above) of the City from October 2000 to April 2003 composes approximately 60% of the whole population. The employment rate is also high, at around 87%.
